Bust the Quarantine Blues with these Mood-Boosting Tips

It’s been a year since the world shut down, and many of us have found new hobbies, new ways of communicating, and maybe even new furry friends to help us stay sane during quarantine. But with so much time that’s gone by and a bit more time to go, we’re looking for fresh, new things to try to keep our moods high and brains engaged until we can go back to our normal activities.

Whether you want to spark a little joy in your day or just need a way to keep boredom at bay, we have some ideas to help. Below is a list of fun, soothing, and mood-boosting ways to shake things up during quarantine.

Glam Up for Video Calls

It can get easy to simply put on some comfy clothes, put your hair in a scrunchy, and get going with your day. But, sometimes, it can feel good to take a little more time to doll yourself up. Even doing something as simple as putting on some eyeliner and new earrings can help you feel fresh when you catch a glance of yourself on a video call or in the mirror.

Customize Old Clothes

DIY tie dye sweater

Remember that old t-shirt that’s living in the back of your closet, waiting for the day to arrive when you donate it to the thrift store? Well, bring that bad boy out and get ready to bring it back into style.

Tie-dye is a popular way to instantly spruce up old clothes. Order some fabric dye online or make your own by simmering various natural ingredients in water (use can use beets to make red dye, onion skins to make yellow dye, and red cabbage to make blue/purple dye).

Embroidery quarantine hobby

For a project that’s a little more unique, try cross-stitching a design onto your clothing of choice. Not only will you end up with something super unique, but you’ll also get to learn a new hobby in the process!

Spa Night with DIY Candles

Self-care is an important part of beating the quarantine-blues (or any blues for that matter). While enjoying a nice scented candle can be relaxing, actually making one can be a fun way to shake things up.

DIY Candles

You’ll need a jar, wick, wax, and fragrance. If you have an empty candle jar lying around from a previously-melted candle, this would be great to start with. You could also use a mason jar for a unique look! Find wicks, wax, and fragrance from your local craft store or order them online. Have fun with your craft by using different colors and sparkly add-ins. Finally, celebrate your hard work by enjoying your candle while soaking in a hot bubble bath.

Group Games Online

Online quarantine games

Make video-calling your friends and family a little more fun by bringing a virtual game to the table! You could teach your parents how to play Among Us, or you could set up a themed trivia night each week with your best pals. If you’ve already been on the game train, then shake things up a bit by trying something new like virtual Fishbowl, Pictionary, or Codenames!

Reclaim the Outdoors

Outdoor COVID activities

With the weather starting to get sunnier and warmer, you’re probably already planning more outdoor activities. Picnics, camping, and stargazing are great ways to move your social-distancing outdoors. Consider crafting a scavenger hunt to do with your friends or practice the art of making daisy chains. No matter what you do outdoors, simply getting some fresh air and vitamin D will help to brighten your day.
